Problem with 24 V trolling motor?
I have a Minnkotta 24 Volt trolling motor, when I hook it up to the 2 batteries( one lead to the pos side of #1 battery and the other lead to the neg side of # 2 battery) I have the 2- 12 v batteries connected with small cable between them ( neg from 1battery to pos to 2 battery) the motor does not work. When I hook it up just to single 12 volt battery it works?????? Is the 24 volt system in the trolling motor bad?
Are you sure it's a 24 volt motor? Minnkotta also makes 12 volt motors. If so, check the voltage on BOTH batteries. Make sure that each battery ALONE is giving you 12 volts. A 12 volt battery will still turn a 24 volt motor by itself, although not efficiently. If you then connect a second battery (that's defective) in series to produce 24 volts, it would react in the manner you are experiencing. If you have a meter, check each battery independently for 12V, and then connected together for 24V.
