Tackle Direct

During interview , how do i handle the salary question ?
ok the interview i have to day has a salary range of about 40k to 50 k .
i was wondering what i can tell the employer , because i dn't have a direct job experience in software engineering field ( didn't work in it yet , this is the first one ) so i dn't want to piss the employer off , by saying yea pay me 50k . you know what i mean ?
how should i tackle if this question comes up . i would take 40 - 45 and be HAPPY ! but then he would think i may not be even worth 30 !!! , So please help me ! i have this interview today . Thanks
The reason they set a range instead of a fixed dollar amount is that it gives them some flexibility and wiggle room so if they find someone on the higher end of the qualification and salary scale they can offer them a bit more money. Odds are that since you don't have any tried and true work experience in the field they are going to offer you something on the low end of the spectrum anyway. They are going to know what you are currently earning and if they decide to offer you do so accordingly.
I would not sweat it unless it comes up. If you are happy getting 40-45 then don't even discuss it unless they bring it up. You could run the risk of them losing interest if they don't think they can get you for what they want to offer.
If it does come up tell them you are comfortable with the proposed pay range and would prefer something in the low to mid-40s. Don't be too specific and keep it a bit vague that way you are not coming off as being intent and locked in to the high end of the scale and it tells them that you are open to the 40-45 range that they are likely to offer given your experience.
