Cut blocking in football?
I play wide reciever when me and my friends play tackle football and is cut blocking in the open field legal as long as its not a clip? and how do you execute a cut block well?
It depends.
In high school, it's illegal. There is an exception for down linemen that is complicated, but if they do it right at the snap it's usually OK.
In college, it's legal, except if a back or end outside the normal tackle position blocks low in the direction of the original spot of the ball behind or within 10 yards of the line of scrimmage. It's also illegal on a change of possession, kicking play, or when done to an eligible receiver beyond the line of scrimmage on a pass play.
In the NFL, I'm sure it's a lot more complicated than that.
For safety's sake I'd recommend that you not be cut blocking in a pick up game with your friends. There is a greater risk of serious leg injuries, especially knees.
