Squid Lure
going bay fishing what might i get?
Hello, I'm going fishing at the keyport bulkhead bay and i know for a fact that there ARE flukethere but im not sure about the stripers. If you think thereare stripers in here please tell me thx.
P.S. im bringing the following=
(1) pencil popper
(1)Bomber Long "A" minnow lure
(2) fluke rigs (might buy more)
Multiple weights over 1oz.
snap swivels
Bunker andmaybe squid
THE WATER IS RELATIVELY NON-MOVING
well if your going surf fishing, than the Pencil Popper will not be a very good idea, if your gonna use top lures than go with Spooks and shrimp poppers. the bomber long will do nicely seams like a good choice to me you'll get so blues with that one! The fluke rig is fine as long as it has a wight less than 1 oz. the bunker chunks seam like a great idea! this link my come in handy if you what some advise on using them. http://www.stripersonline.com/surftalk/s...
but if you really want to slam the Stripers than use clams cut or whole, a good technique i learned but you need a long shaked "J" hook, get a whole live clam and crack the shell so you can open it up, but don't pull the shell off, open it a little so you can wedge the hook trough the open part of the clam and were the crack is, put the sharp part of the hook out of the crack, so you have a clam rigged somewhat like a soft jig.
and if you like blue fish than i would recommend using nice big sliver spoon or a loud top water, in this a case a big pencil popper would go fine.
