where do catfish stay in the water and how deep?
im going catfishing all weekend and i wanna know ehre i should fish this lake is from 10 feet deep to 35 feet deep here is a great pic http://ohiodnr.gov/Portals/9/Images/fishing/Lake%20Maps/pub337.gif i am going to be using the simple egg and 24 to 18inch line after the egg sinker onj that lake where would be the best catfishing at
first, shorten up that leader to not more than 6". and big circle hooks. 4/0 or 5/0. you don't set the hook with these. just begin reeling in. l usually just tie the hook on the end of my line with the egg sinker sliding free on it, separated from the hook by only a plastic bead. there are LOTS of trees, logs, rocks and brush in the lake and a leader is more likely to get tangled in all the junk.
find a spot in the main river channel with lots of logs about 10 - 15 feet deep and try there.
use stout tackle with heavy line because of all the wood. maybe 25lb line with a rod/reel built to handle it.
there are gizzard shad there. those are the main forage in that lake. use fresh, bloody chunks of these for your bait. change your bait often, don't stay in any one spot more than 20 or 30 minutes. keep moving til you find them.
another spot would be to find deeper holes all the way up in the upper end of the lake. but still look for those log jams.
in the upper end of the lake or any lake or river, deep is relative. the lake bed may only be 6' deep but find a hole or washout that is a few feet deeper. those are the spots to look for. and the logs. cats love these spots. they find food easily and also feel safe in them.
