what do i put the pro float on for fly fishing?
i have some pro float, what do i put the pro float on for fly fishing?
I've never heard of this product, and a quick Google search didn't help much. I figure it's one of two things -- it's either a fly floatant or a strike indicator float putty. Doesn't the product have a label or instructions? How did you come to have it if you don't know what it's for?
Anyhow...
If it's fly floatant, like a semi-gelly stuff in a tube or small bottle, sometimes called "fly dressing," then it's probably to put on dry flies. There is a similar product called "Gink." It makes your dry flies slightly more hydrophobic and makes them float on the water better and longer. It's not something you NEED, but it can be helpful. Don't use too much or it will actually make your flies sink. Just put a tiny dab on your finger and gently rub it into the fly hackles.
If it's a float putty, it's meant to be used as a strike indicator for use with nymphs and wet flies. You take a little schtickle about the size of a pea or so (depending on the size of your fly) and you glom it onto your tippet or leader. It will act as a "bobber" if that helps.
