Plastic Blue
What is the little blue plastic piece in the filter of camel's signiture series frosts?
If you tear open the filter of a camel frost you will find a little blue plastic piece. A reason I have postulated is to add flavor or menthol, but really i have no clue. Any body else have an answer?
I work at Nothin' Butt Smokes, and what I've always inferred from customer mention and experimentation is that it's nothing other than a flavoring strip.
The common cigarette is made up of three different labeled areas:
1: The tipping paper, which is where your tobacco is rolled and surrounded by a very light, thin membrane of - often oxygen bleached or colored - paper, tobacco paper, or hemp paper.
2: The filter, which is made up primarily of artificial filter fluff (Phillip Morris uses mostly artificial filter fluff material and leaves the rest to gumming agents and cotton) and/or cotton fiber. (R.J. Reynolds is one company that claims to use mostly cotton fiber as their filter fluff in a majority of their non-bargain cigarettes.)
3: THE FILLER ROD, which is a very small "blank" area left to drop flavors into during processing. Menthol crystals and strips, plants extracts (such as cinnamon and ginger-like flavors that go into your Camel ROBUST cigarettes) and nicotine additives (Marlboro brands typically, and cheaper bargain brands) are all such additives.

((Oh, and if you've never tried Salem brand cigarettes, t ry them! I gave them a t ry just yesterday, thinking it was some horrible R.J. Reynolds off-brand-ish mistake, but they're really pretty good. Not as menthol-esque as the frost, but quite enjoyable and at a reasonable price.))
