The Aluring Work of Surrealist Artist, Anna Chromy
This page celebrates the masterpieces crafted by Anna Chromy, the European artist, by recalling my favourite selection of opinions and evaluation stated in notable magazines and newspapers during the 1970's and 80's.
Chromy's paintings are a combination of tender creative talent as well as experimental usage of perspective and colour. She uses surrealism together with credible depictions of the human form to produce pictures which appear realistic yet unreal simultaneously. In accomplishing this, she has the capacity to haunt the audience with the appearance and meaning of her paintings long after seeing it.

ABC, Madrid, May 1980: Elements of the symbolic as well as the surreal are mixed to present us with poetic images interspersed with a vision of the enigmatic. Soothing shades and light outlines lend a mysterious and sensuous quality to her pictures.

Anna Chromy is symbolist in just as much as she makes use of, such as Moreau or Redon, Greco-Roman mythology within a central European variation, filled with fawns and bacchants, nymphs and centaurs, and with nude heroes who appear to be accomplishing some strange and inaccessible rehearsed ritual, and therefore are taken aback at the intense curiosity of an outsider. But with the art of Anna Chromy mythology is just a pretext of secondary relevance that allows her creative thinking to become sent to other worlds, even extraterrestial, where metaphysical beings - or better, transphysical beings - drift weightless in space without having relation to reality. They are in a kingdom of dreams or perhaps a realm of the subconscience so very near to a Dali, a Fuchs or a Delvaux. One of many characteristics of this artist is her own universe without change of matter and form.
This lady's heroines and creatures take flight, as if suspended in space - they transgress their unique guidelines of life by entering and departing at will without the least revelation, they permit themselves to be shaded and melted progressively until they become an element of the very backdrop of the picture or vice-versa.
Anna Chromy is exceptionally gifted, and in the sober actuality of our present-day world, she challenges us to see things in the areas of love, tenderness and virginal beauty.

Surrealism is definitely alive and maturing in the paintings of Anna Chromy. We hear that she may be undertaking no more paintings having devoted her time to sculpture since the early nineties. This homage is in remembrance of the pleasure of her surrealist paintings.

Leslie Forest read History of Art at the University of Brighton. She specialised in surrealist artists especially Dali, Miró and Magritte. More recently she has developed an interest in the European surrealist artist, Anna Chromy. She now relays her beliefs on the significance of Chromy's work and the culture of Europe portrayed in it.
