Soft plastic lure making?
how can you make them? can you melt your old ones down..and how do u melt them?
what else can you use to make them
Pouring plastic is fairly easy especially with injection molds.
You only need to heat up soft plastic, pour molten plastic into your mold, let the soft plastic cool and take the lure out of the mold. To pour your own plastic lures, you'll need a mold, an injector (only if you're using injection mold), a container to heat and hold molten plastic, some soft plastic, some plastic colorings and a device to heat up and melt your plastic (microwave, Lee production pot, stove...).
You could melt old plastic lures and turn them into new lures.
You don't even need to buy a mold to begin pouring lures. Just grab a potato, cut it in half, cut some slots with a straw (on the flat side) and you'll have a trout worm mold. You'll need to experiment with your cuts so the worm will come out fairly round. Some trimming might be necessary though; many times when trimming is needed, I just heat up the plastic trout worm with a lighter and roll it on a flat surface.
If you want to pour small curly tail grubs, I highly recommend that you get an injection type mold because the tail part will be very frustrating to pour for beginners.
PS: Don't over heat your plastic.
PPS: Melt plastic in a well ventilated place. The smell of molten plastic isn't too great.
