Fishing line for ultra light lures?
I want to cast ultra light lures and be able to get good distance. If I switch from 15lb FLOROCARBON line to 15lb SPIDERWIRE EZ braid will I be able to move to ultra light weight lures and get good distance using my existing rod reel combo made for med to med heavy lures?
For starter's your rod is an over match for ultra lite lures. Using 15 lb test with ultra lures is another mismatch. I can see some problems with this arrangement.
Mono: A rule of thumb about line is 3 times the lb test would be the size of fish you can land, 3 X 15 = 45 lb fish. There are many variables involved; snags, drag setting, rod etc.
Try a micro thin diameter fishing line instead of a regular diameter line.
Example: Hi Seas, White Lighting' is a fluorescent White line; highly visible on the reel or on the cast but disappears as it hits the water. It has a micro thin diameter. This means you can go up a few lbs of test vs standard diameter line, without over filling your reel. Arounf $11.xx
Reg. diameter Mono 6 lb. test = .010 inch diameter 3 X 6 lbs test = 18 lb fish.
White Lighting Micro Thin 10 lb. test = .010 inch diameter 3 X 10 lbs test = 30 lb fish
A big difference.
It is silky smooth, no memory, will not coil up. Will help with getting distance with ultra lite lures, I still don't like the med rod.
