Fix A Golf Hook With These Tips
Golf is a sporting activity played on an open course with 9-18 holes using various types of clubs and balls. The aim of the game is to drive the ball into each hole using straight shots. However, players generally tend to perform unintentional golf hook shots that result in achieving low scores. Hook shots primarily occur when the ball spins in a counterclockwise direction or when the club is not held in the right manner. Some of the major tips to fix a golf hook when playing the game include the following.
The foremost factor is to obtain a neutral grip on the club. A weak or incorrect grip will make the club turn around and lower the quality of the entire game. It is required to loosen the hand or turn the grip in various degrees to determine a comfortable hold when hooking a shot. However, this needs to be practiced on a continuous basis to obtain an accurate grip.
The other major tip to fix a golf hook is to visualize a perfect line from the ball to the target spot. It is essential to keep the feet, hips, shoulders, and knees aligned to the club and target the location in a parallel manner. This is vital and needs to be thoroughly checked before swinging the club.
Body movement is another key area that needs to be focused during a swing. It is believed that high-speed arm rotation results in striking the ball hard and thereby causes golf hooks. To overcome this, it would be better to perform drills that enable you to lower the possibility of a hook.
Some of the popular drills that can be carried out include the left-toe back drill which aids you to become skilled in the in-square swinging technique and also remain in a balanced position. Head cover activity involves placing the head cover below the arm to get a better idea on different swings. This drill forces you to keep the right elbow near the body and develop an ideal swing plane position. Similarly, there is an anti-hook drill that helps to maintain a good control of the hands when rotating them in an aggressive way.
Above all, it would be helpful to use the assistance of another golfer or capture video shots to observe one's own swinging motions. This will help in easily identifying incorrect swings or grips and improve the weak areas. It would also be best to seek the advice of an expert to fix a golf hook.
