Where is the best place to stay in Puerto Rico?

Hi my husband and plan on going to Puerto Rico in May. We know what we want, we just don't know where to stay to get what we want. We want beachfront property, close to the the rainforest, close if not on the Veiques beaches, close enough to do the Mosquito Bay kayak tours at night, a nice staff and good comfortable rooms. We dont want to spend over 500 a night so the St. Regis is out of the question. We should probably stay in East Puerto Rico for all we want but I do not know for sure. We do not care about nightlife. I looked into the W Hotel and Spa on Vieques( I love the pictures of the beaches, they seem more " Blue" if that makes sense), but it has so many bad reviews. I do not nitpick but I expect a nice staff and nice rooms for the money I pay. We are thinking the Wyndam resort, the Gran Melia, or the Conquistadors villas. If you have ever been to Puerto Rico or live there please help, I would greatly appreciate it. Please no smart alec answers, and thanks for all your help!

Hi V & C 15, I am a native of the island, and I live there. I can tell you, if you want beachfront property, you will be paying a lot. Puerto Rico is not cheap, it's quite expensive. (The economy is not at its best.) I can tell you one thing though, you can't get beachfront property that is surrounded in the rainforest, simply because there aren't any rainforests ON the actual beach. Generally, the more touristy, small town, community friendly place you're looking for is "San Juan" (NOT "OLD San Juan).There's a nice calm beath with a few shady almond trees, plenty of hotels nearby / that have a view of the sea. There's only one ACTUAL hotel that is on the beach shore called "La Concha" (the shell, or "the conch"). It extends onto the shore and literally almost touches the water. It may be a bit pricey, but I can garuntee it is a 4/5 star hotel. Now, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE for god SAKES visit Old San Juan! It is beautiful and full of so many historical buildings like El Morro! Google it and see! Have fun(:
