Gone Fishing
Have you gone on an organized fishing trip?
I mean one that is open to the public and they take you out for a few days? Was it fun? Was it expensive?
I've been on several multi-day trips out of San Diego, ranging up to 10 days in length. Currently these run about $250-$300 per day (includes food, bait, etc.), though if you don't already have the tackle, that'll add to the cost.
Definitely fun. The skipper and crew know their stuff, and work to put you on fish. Though you occasionally hit slow (or nearly dead) days, the time and range means that you'll generally get into some good to wide-open bites at some point, though the longer the trip, the better your chances.
Depending on the time of year and length of trip, you can expect albacore, yellowfin tuna, yellowtail, wahoo, bluefin tuna, dorado (dolphinfish) and possibly other species, ranging from 10-100+ pounds.
The 3 main San Diego landings have websites which give details, schedules, tackle needed, catch reports, and so on, and most of the long range boats have their own websites as well.
