Is Award Checks out of Berkley California for real?
I know a lady that is disabled and on very limited income that recieved a grant from them and she has to pay a 10 percent comission to them before the check ever clears. She does not have the money to lose if this is a scam. I can't find any indication that they are a scam on the net. To lose just the amount of the comission check would ruin her finances. Anyone familiar with them.
The check is probably fake.
It will look perfectly real but it will bounce but only after she sends the money out, leaving her on the hook for the amount.
Here is one clue: Is she being asked to send the money via wire or Western Union? If so, it is definitely fake. The reason the scammers choose these methods is that they can not be reversed once sent.
One other clue: Grants are next to impossible to get. They don't just hand them out. I have also never heard of anyone requesting a "commission" on a grant.
All in all: 99.9% chance of SCAM.
