Cat has a bald spot the size of a nickel?
I'm not sure what it is but she just got it last night while we was sleeping. She isn't around any other cats and always in the house. She doesn't have any claws to dig. I guess I should say the spot is on her ear. She is about 3 years old. She did just have a cold in her eye. That we took her to the vet for and that went away within a couple days. Does anyone know what it might be. We do have a dog but she doesn't like him. So they never come in contact. She owns the house my 65 pd lab doesn't go near her because she lets him know to stay away.
Anyone think this is serious enough to make an appt. It's to early or I would have already called them. HELP PLEASE!

The area isn't red or infected looking. It looks like some just shaved her in that spot.
Hair loss problems are very difficult to diagnose. It is likely to be fungal, especially if it spreads to another location or if the initial spot was round and scaly - in which case you will need to treat it, just like you would treat athlete's foot (though it probably doesn't itch). Check the rest of her body and your dog for hair loss spots, too, because fungal infections often spread rapidly. It's up to you whether you want to wait and see if it spreads or not. If you took her to the vet, they would do a skin scrape and use a wood's lamp, but neither of these will rule out what they are checking for since they are not 100% accurate. They might prescribe an antifungal cream, or, in the worst case scenario, you will have fungal ringworm which can require lyme-sulphur dips to get rid of (they stink). Fungal infections can be harbored in the soil and are not an urgent health threat except that the more they take hold, the harder it is to get rid of them.
