Big Game
The best cartridge for distance and takedown power in big game?
I was after a cartridge that can give me great ballistics for distance, nothing dramatic yet has the authority to take down big deer and other big game. I was thinking about the .300 win mag which i am leaning towards with great warmth. What options do i have to chose from?
Well...
Depends on how much you are willing to pay for ammo. Someone early mentioned a Lazzeroni which is a great gun if your willing to pay $110 a box for factory ammo.
There are a few larger calibers that most impress me as far as energy carried and the trajectory.
.300 Weatherby. Weatherby takes a good caliber and doubles its performance
The .30-378 weatherby is extremely accurate a packs a huge punch.
The .338-378 weatherby is similar only larger, more power
.338-06 A square is a hair slower but is also a great long range round
Personaly I'm not a big fan of the .300 WM. It's slow and drops quick. You could also look into the several different short magnums that are available.
I didn't mean this to be a commercial for weatherby but look around there aren't a lot of options over .30 cal rifles that shoot as fast, flat, and pack as much power as these rounds.
