Barrel Swivel
Where to place weight on the line?
I'm going to be doing some pier fishing in more rocky/kelpy areas. I've always put a weight (lead slider or barrel or bell) about a foot up from my bait. A saw a few people including my friend put the weight at the bottom of the line and hook with bait about a foot above it (OR like a separate 6 inch line with hook attached on a swivel).
I was wondering what the pros and cons were for both. Fishing was pretty bad that day so we couldn't compare if either rigs got more.

Place it at the bottom of the line. If it is a pyramid sinker it will dig into the sand and allow the bait to be suspended in the water above it.
