Aluminum Crimps
How does one secure the strips of aluminum foil around the outside of the pie crust?
Am I the only crazy person who has trouble securing the strips of aluminum foil around the pie crust so the edge of the crust doesn't get burned? As hard as I try, when I place one strip of foil on the edge of the crust, the previous one comes off. I have tried crimping, shorter strips, folding the foil over the edge. NO success. I'm about ready to buy one of those aluminum rings made special for this purpose.
I get the extra wide rolls of foil. Cut a ring just larger than the pie plate, LAY the foil on the outside edges of the pie crust!! It doesn't need to be secured. It will lay there while the pie is baking.
If all you have is the narrow regular foil, seal 2 pieces together by folding in ccenter twice then cut your circle and cut out the center and lay this on your crust.

the aluminum rings are to go under the pie plate to catch runovers so you don't have burnt pie filling all over the oven floor and 4 hours clean up of that as well as getting the smoke from burnt sugar fruit filling out of the kitchen and house!!
